One of our favourite things about living in St Lucia is the wildlife and nature right on our doorstep. As busy parents of three young children, we share the same concerns as many do; do our children have too much screen time? Are they active enough? Do they get ‘enough’ fresh air? 

Getting young people out to enjoy nature, learning, listening and being technology-free is what we focus on. Our Little Bush Baby Co. activities are all designed around the needs of children to ensure boredom is banished and leave them wanting to see and hear more!

Adults are welcome to join but as an accompanying guest – your child is our No.1 guest!

Having taken our children on safaris from birth we know all too well that expecting a child to sit looking for animals for hours on end can be boring and frustrating even for the most enthusiastic nature lover. That’s why we tailor our family safaris a little differently. We focus on the needs (and attention span!) of your child and plan our tours accordingly.

Little Bush Baby’s Good Morning or Good Afternoon Safari:

3-hour morning or afternoon game drive into the iSimangaliso Wetland Park – this leisurely drive is perfect for families short on time or worried about how their child will manage on safari. There is so much flora and fauna to be discovered in this fun and interactive tour.

Includes a short break for snacks, snack pack, activity pack to take home, cool drink/water and entrance fees.

Little Beach Bums Safari Day:

Spend the day exploring the bushveld for wildlife, learning about different plants and how it all fits together before heading to Cape Vidal for some time on the beach. At low tide there is a natural ‘paddling pool’ and rock pools perfect for finding fish, octopus and coral species or if the tide isn’t favourable simply enjoy a splash around in the surf or build a sandcastle!

Includes light breakfast, snack pack, activity pack, lunch, selection of cool drinks, water and entrance fees.

Little Bush Baby’s Big 5 Adventure Safari –

A fairly early start to the day is needed to drive to the wonderful Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. Home to the majestic Big 5 plus some delightful extras such as cheetahs, wild dogs, zebra and giraffes. Any budding little Attenboroughs or Irwins will enjoy exploring the landscape and learning about eco-systems, rhino conservation and plants all whilst searching for elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos, kudu, vultures and many more African creatures only seen on television or in books. A junior Rangers dream!

Includes light breakfast, snack pack, activity pack, lunch, selection of cool drinks, water and entrance fees.

FAQ about our Family Safaris

Does your child like to eat little and often?

No problem! We provide child-friendly snack packs that they can munch on throughout the trip and depending on which tour you take with us, we stop for a main meal when they are ready. Plus our meals are all child-tested and approved by even the most pickiest of eaters and choosiest children!

Does your child get fidgety or bored after 10 minutes of driving?

No problem! We have an arsenal of activities, games and books to keep them entertained between wildlife sightings. We also plan regular stops so that your little one can get out the vehicle, stretch their legs and let off some steam, whether that is at a picnic site, viewing hide or a designated safe area in the game reserve, we can pace the trip accordingly.

Does your child wake early (or maybe they are a later sleeper??!)

No problem! At the moment we only offer private family safaris, so you’ll be the only family onboard. This means we can go out slightly earlier or later (depending on the weather and gate times) than a standard game drive.

Does your child like to show you EVERYTHING they see?

No problem! We have books to look at so they can try and identify what they see and Ashley, your knowledgeable guide on hand to explain more about what they are seeing, hearing, smelling and occasionally tasting! Making the trip a truly immersive and interactive one for the whole family.

Children’s Activities in St Lucia

Little Explorers Nature Safari:

Join our signature Little Explorers Nature Safari where we take a walk around St Lucia and the surrounding areas. Your little one will spend approximately 1.5 hours looking for tracks and signs of the local wildlife. They may spot the elusive mongoose pack that moves around the town or the cute warthog family taking breakfast on a local lawn. Our focus is on learning about the natural world around us. It is a fun and interactive session which includes an activity pack, snack pack and drink.

Little Dundee’s Croc Safari:

St Lucia Crocodile Centre is home to a variety of crocodile species, join this fun and interactive tour learning about these prehistoric giants with your experienced private guide. You will get a chance to see the baby crocs that are part of the protective breeding programme, learn about snakes and see if you can find the tortoises that hide in their huts! A great tour for the whole family to enjoy.
